The United States and Missouri executed a Consent Decree (“CD”) with Doe Run Resources Corporation (“DRRC”) requiring the remediation of more than 4,000 lead-contaminated residential properties near the Big River Mine Tailings site in St. Francois County, Missouri.

The CD requires that DRRC:

  • Excavate lead-contaminated soil on approximately 4,100 affected residential properties
  • Perform additional cleanup at the Hayden Creek Mine waste area.

The Consent Decree is described as a mixed funding arrangement. The United States Environmental Protection Agency will contribute up to $31.54 million toward the remediation which will cost an estimated total of $111 million.

The Consent Decree has been lodged in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, subject to a 30-day public comment period.
