What Caused the Lucent Health Data Breach?

The Lucent Health data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Lucent Health’s filing with the Attorney General of California provides some important information on what led up to the breach. Lucent Health also posted a website notice discussing the incident.

According to this source, Lucent Health acquired Capitol Administrators. As a result, Lucent Health continued the operations of Capital Administrators. On October 2, 2023, a Lucent Health manager in California opened a “phishing” email that appeared to be from a trusted source.

In response, Lucent Health’s IT team identified the suspicious activity and eliminated the unauthorized access within 90 minutes. Lucent Health then brought on a team of outside cybersecurity experts to assist with the company’s investigation. Through this investigation, Lucent Health learned that an unauthorized party was able to access certain confidential consumer information in its possession.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Lucent Health reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, date of birth, and health insurance, dental insurance, and/or vision insurance policy information.

On January 30, 2025, Lucent Health sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
