Practice/Organization Description

Asbury Law is focused on providing clients with superior service. We can do this because we know what our clients need from their lawyers: practical, timely advice that adds tangible value.

We are a next generation law firm. Sometimes described as a “virtual” law firm, we’ve abandoned the ivory tower and embraced simplicity and technology while avoiding unnecessary overhead. Asbury Law is intentionally designed to provide intelligent, flexible, lightweight and client-focused legal services.

For that matter, we implement flat organizational structures, simple offices and cloud-based technology to provide the highest quality services at reasonable prices. Quite simply, Asbury Law would rather work with you to achieve your goals than chase billable hours to pay for partner golf games and expensive boardroom tables.

I am the owner and founder of Asbury Law. So, I’m an attorney. But don’t hold that against me! And yes, I’ve probably heard many of the same attorney jokes you have. Frankly, some are quite funny.

My “Credentials”

I received my Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania and Juris Doctorate from Florida Coastal Law School. I’ve also been an adjunct professor in law school (teaching legal writing), a lecturer for the National Business Institute, served on various boards of non-profit organizations, and participated in Wharton and UPenn Alumni groups. I’m also a member of the Florida Bar, the Jacksonville Bar, and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

My Experience

I have extensive expertise in the business and legal sector, including development and implementation of corporate operations, policies, procedures, and practices, legal compliance and accreditation standards, oversight and monitoring of internal and external personnel/clients, and demonstrated experience developing and delivering training programs.

Before joining WellCare, a Fortune 500 health insurance company, as one of two regulatory compliance attorneys, I served as a government prosecutor for the State of Florida, Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). As a state attorney, I handled hundreds of cases, successfully prosecuted over thirty trials before the Florida Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH), performed bill analysis for the Governor’s Office, and acted as an advisor for Emergency Suspension Orders and Moratoriums. Before that, I was the Executive Director of Teen Challenge, a non-profit organization, overseeing an annual multi-million dollar budget and all corporate operations.

Prior to my law career, and immediately after graduating from Wharton, I worked in the Internet sector as the Webmaster for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. During law school, I was fortunate enough to publish a law review article concerning alternative sentencing theory in cases involving drug and alcohol-related crimes, Alternative Sentencing Theory, 3 Fla. Coastal L. J. 41 (2001).

My Family & Personal Life

I’m a proud father of two children, Ethan and Katherine. I try to stay active—and somehow managed to win a Bronze Medal in the 2011 Sunshine State Games (Judo) and completed my first marathon in 2012 (the St. Pete Rock & Roll ½ Marathon. Much earlier in my life, I won the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award (1991) and received the National Defense Service Medal and an Honorable Discharge from my service in the U.S. Army.
