As the 114th Congress gets underway, Members of Congress must immediately confront major political, policy and economic deadlines. These policy fights will test Republican leadership in each chamber and could very well define how the new bicameral majority will work with a Democratic White House over the next two years. Republican leaders will try to manage and resolve these issues, without triggering the type of brinksmanship that could raise concerns about the party’s ability to govern, so that they can dictate an agenda of their own making. We highlight these happenings below, along with other important calendar events for you to keep in mind this year.
