  • In the Nebraska Republican AG primary, Mike Hilgers outpolled Jennifer Hicks 67.1% to 32.9%. As the state has no Democrat AG candidates, Hilgers is the presumptive next AG of the state. Hilgers is an attorney with a private practice in Lincoln, has served in Nebraska’s unicameral Legislature for the past six years, and is now Speaker.
  • In South Dakota, David Natvig, a key aide to Republican AG Jason Ravnsborg announced he is seeking the GOP nomination for state AG. AG Ravnsborg was impeached last month following an incident in which he struck and killed a pedestrian.
  • Tennessee AG Herbert Slatery announced that he will not seek another term. In Tennessee, the AG is appointed by the state Supreme Court and serves an eight-year term.
  • Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron, a first-term Republican, has entered the 2023 gubernatorial race.
  • Democrat Rory Thibault declared his candidacy for Vermont AG. Thibault is currently the Washington County State’s Attorney, and previously served as an assistant attorney general and as an Army JAG officer. As reported last week, Vermont AG TJ Donovan—who has held the AG post since 2016—announced he will not seek reelection.
