In a move that may not please Postmaster General Megan G. Brennan, California Assembly Member James Gallagher has introduced a bill that would effectively require every limited liability company and every foreign limited liability company registered to transact intrastate business in California to have a "valid" email address.

Current law (Corporations Code section 17702.09(a)(6)) allows an LLC or a foreign LLC to include a valid email address for receiving renewal and other notices from the Secretary of State if it chooses.  Assembly Member Gallagher's bill would amend this provision to eliminate its optionality.  Presently, the bill would not amend the analogous provisions pertaining to corporations and foreign corporations (Corporations Code sections 1502(a)(8) & 2117(a)(6)).
