Recently, the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) announced that an additional $8 million in safety grants will be made to Ohio schools and law enforcement agencies. The BWC explained that these grants are part of a two-year, $44 million investment in safety intended to help schools and law enforcement agencies develop safety initiative programs. The grants will be used to assist in purchasing safety equipment and funding safety training.

But the bureau is not stopping there. Other safety grants from BWC include:

  • 75 Ohio fire departments will share $745,000 in safety grants from the Firefighter Exposure to Environmental Elements Grant Program. To protect firefighters from exposure to carcinogens and other harmful risks, safety gear, exhaust systems and specialized washing machines will now be available for purchase.
  • $4 million will be dedicated to the BWC’s Occupational Safety and Health Research Grant Program, which funds workplace health and safety research for Ohio’s nonprofit higher education intuitions.

Ultimately, the additional funding seeks to increase the Safety Intervention Grant Program annual funding from $15 million to $20 million in the next two years.
