The CFPB announced on Friday that it will hold a symposium on behavioral law and economics on September 19.  The symposium will be the second in the series announced by the Bureau in April 2019.  The first symposium, which was held on June 25, focused on the Dodd-Frank Act’s prohibition of abusive acts or practices, specifically the meaning of abusiveness.

The September 19 symposium will consist of two panels.  The first panel will include a discussion of the methodological foundations of behavioral economics.  The second panel will be a discussion of behavioral law and economics and consumer financial protection.  The moderator and members of each panel are identified in the CFPB’s press release.

Other symposia topics identified by the Bureau in its April 2019 announcement are small business loan data collection, disparate impact and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, cost-benefit analysis, and consumer authorized financial data sharing.
