A meeting of the Rules Committee of the Superior Court of Connecticut was held on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. At the meeting, the Rules Committee suspended various Practice Book rules. Most notably for family law practitioners and clients, the Rules Committee has suspended the time requirements imposed on the Court under Practice Book Sections 25-3 and 25-4, which concern actions for custody of a minor child and actions for visitation of a minor child. Now, while the Court is continuing to accept new filings and clerks must set dates for hearings and for service of papers on opposing parties, the Court is no longer required to hold a hearing within thirty days of filing. During these unsettling and uncertain times, we will continue to monitor how these changes affect our clients and our practice.
