At this point in the evolution, or de-evolution, of the insurance industry practices, the insurance companies see themselves more as investment companies than insurance companies. Their goal seems to be to take money in and invest it, but never pay any money out. Unless the people of the state of California decide to start electing politicians who are more interested in protecting consumers than the profits of the insurance industry, I fear that buying insurance will become akin to purchasing swampland in Florida: neither will have any value.
