New Actions Announced to Provide Debt Relief and Support for Student Loan Borrowers following US Supreme Court Action

June 30, 2023

President Joe Biden announced new actions aimed at providing debt and supporting student loan borrowers:

i) The Secretary of Education initiated a rulemaking process aimed at opening an alternative path to debt relief for as many working and middle-class borrowers as possible, using the Secretary's authority under the Higher Education Act; and

ii) The Department of Education finalized an affordable repayment plan to go into effect before loan payments are due.
