SOUTHFIELD, Mich., - Brooks Kushman Shareholder Christopher Smith was published in the March 2020 issue of The Licensing Journal in an article he co-authored titled, “Dawn of a New Era: Licensing and Standards in the Coming Age of 5G.”
In his article, Smith and Cyhan discuss how the emergence of 5G technology in our era of technological development is leading to significant questions as to how the strategies and practices will fairly align incentives and maximize benefits, and the benefits this could have economically and socially. They delve into the role of standards in unlocking the potential benefits of 5G, specifically investigating how F/RAND licensing stands to impact this new technology. They also discuss how to prepare to manage disputes that are sure to arise over 5G technology.
Smith concentrates his practice on intellectual property litigation, with a primary emphasis on patent litigation. In addition to litigation, Smith is involved with the preparation of invalidity and infringement opinions and licensing disputes. Smith has represented clients from Fortune 500 companies to startups and individual inventors in a wide variety of industries and technologies including: (1) automotive, including infotainment; (2) medical devices; (3) internet, including content delivery networks; and (4) telecommunications, including fiber optics.
