Earlier this week, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued the news release, “Crowd Management Measures Are Critical During Major Sales Events,” and sent a reminder to major retailers and retail associations about the need to take precautions to prevent employee injuries during major sales events. The news release reminds retailers about a worker who was trampled to death by a crowd of customers when he opened the doors to a large store during a Black Friday sales event.
The news release explains the necessary components in crowd management plans. The release also includes a link to the OSHA Fact Sheet, available here, which elaborates on steps retailers can take to minimize the risk of employee injuries during large sales events.
