The EDPB launched a website auditing tool to help legal and technical auditors at data protection authorities check whether websites are compliant with the law on 29 January 2024. Controllers and processors can also use the tool to test their own websites for compliance.

The EDPB notes the auditing tool: supports preparation, completion and evaluation of audits directly in the tool, without need for technical expertise;

  • generates reports;
  • is compatible with other tools, such as the EDPS website evidence collector, and allows auditors to import and evaluate results from such tools; and
  • uses free and open source software.

A second version of the tool will be launched later in the year.

The tool is available here, and the press release here.

DISCLAIMER: Because of the generality of this update, the information provided herein may not be applicable in all situations and should not be acted upon without specific legal advice based on particular situations.
