EPA has announced four public meetings of the Scientific Advisory Board PFAS Review Panel to take place in December and January. The proposed agenda is robust and includes at least three core components. First, the Panel will discuss EPA’s approach to the derivation of a draft Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (“MCLG”) for PFOA and PFOS in drinking water. An MCLG is a non-enforceable maximum level of a contaminant in drinking water at which no known or anticipated adverse effect on the health of persons would occur; setting this level is a step towards creating binding regulations under the SDWA. Second, the Panel will review EPA’s analysis of cardiovascular disease risk reduction as a result of reduced PFOA and PFOS in drinking water. Finally, the Panel intends to address EPA’s draft framework for estimating noncancer health risks associated with mixtures of PFAS.
Interested members of the public are invited to submit written comments by December 30, 2021 for consideration by the Scientific Advisory Board at the public meetings.
