On February 2, 2021, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) announced new federal campaign contribution limits in accordance with the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, which requires the FEC to adjust certain federal contribution limits from individuals every two years (the beginning of each new election cycle) based on the Consumer Price Index.
Not included in these changes are the $5,000 annual limit on an individual contributing to a federal PAC, and the $10,000 annual limit on an individual contributing to the federal accounts of all state and local party committees of the same party in the same state, neither of which adjust for inflation.
The FEC also raised the lobbyist bundling disclosure threshold for 2021 from $19,000 to $19,300.
Other index adjustment decisions anticipated in the coming weeks include federal lobby registration thresholds, and contribution limits in Arkansas, Ohio, Oklahoma and Vermont. We will update our lobby and campaign finance surveys accordingly.
