A significant expansion is underway for a program to provide relief funds to North Carolina businesses and nonprofit organizations that experienced interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our previous alert outlined the details of the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Economic Investment Committee’s Job Retention Grant program (JRG), which initially had a deadline of September 1.

But the program is now being expanded. On September 4, 2020, the General Assembly of North Carolina passed House Bill 1105, also known as the Coronavirus Relief Act 3.0, which provides additional funds in the total amount of $60,500,000 for the Job Retention Grant Program (JRG) and a potential extension of the JRG deadline until Friday, September 25, 2020

If the Economic Investment Committee determines that the total amount of grants requested from the applications filed on or before the initial deadline of September 1, 2020 do not exceed the new maximum amount of $60,500,000, then the JRG will be extended for an additional round of applications until Friday, September 25, 2020.
