CMS Revises Medicare Advantage and Part D Prescription Drug Plan Prior Authorization Requirement for Hospices – On July 18, 2014, CMS released a revised a memorandum outlining responsibility for drug payments for hospice beneficiaries. In a prior memorandum released in March 2014, CMS wrote that Part D plans should place prior authorization requirements on all drugs. After receiving industry feedback, CMS revised its requirement and said it would strongly encourage Part D plans to place prior authorization requirements on only four categories of drugs: analgesics, antinauseants (antiemetics), laxatives, and antianxiety drugs (anxiolytics). The revised memorandum can be found here.
