Lawyer CoachingTips to Make Sure Your Holiday Greeting Doesn't Get Tossed

With the holiday season in full swing, you're probably getting ready to send out your holiday greeting cards. But, I'm urging you stop and think for a moment about why you're sending cards. Are you doing it out of obligation? Probably so. And do you know what? Your obligatory holiday card with a stale, impersonal greeting will likely get tossed into a pile with all the others - never to be seen again.

Such a shame. What a waste of money and your time, right?

Wrong!

Holiday greetings can actually add value to your practice. This is your chance to spread selfless expressions of gratitude AND market your services. Here are few tips to make sure your greeting is noticed and remembered.

1. Get personal.

The greeting is a reflection of you and your firm. Forget the pre-printed greetings with generic words of inspiration. Instead, personalize them. Make them entertaining, unique and they will be noticed. Include your company name and logo, and make the message is relevant to your business relationship. Remember to stay holiday and religion neutral.

You can also add a personal touch to your card by adding a stamp in lieu of using a postal meter.

2. Choose recipients with care.

It's not wise to send a greeting to everyone in your address book. Focus on the business partners who are most important to your firm. This is also a great time to reach out to prospects. Remember, a hand written message is always appreciated and worth the hand cramps!

3. Don't forget...

While it may seem like a no-brainer, people often forget to include pertinent information about the firm - like a website address, or even a phone number and physical address! Your signature needs to be more than your name. Include all the different ways people can contact you. You could even go so far as to add a "gift" - perhaps a discounted or free consultation!

These efforts will get your greeting noticed and, more important, offer a return on your investment.
