How to Use a Membership Program to Boost Your Law Practice Profits (Plus, The One Thing All Your Clients Want and Need)

Lawyers are classic pessimists, cynics and skeptics.

It takes all types, but once in a while you have to check yourself and be sure you’re not losing faith right before you make that big breakthrough… especially when it comes to increasing your law practice revenues and building a successful law business.

You could be – what Napoleon Hill calls in his seminal work Think and Grow Rich – just 3 feet from gold!

Hill tells the story of an enterprising man named R. U. Harby, whose uncle had gold fever. After staking his claim and a lot of hard work, the uncle found a vein of ore, so he covered up his find and returned home to raise the money for the machinery needed to bring the ore to the surface.

They raised the money and Harby travelled with his uncle back to the vein of gold to excavate it and reap their fortune.

Everything went well. Soon, they had enough to clear their debts and everything further would be profit for them. The mother load was in reach.

Then, mysteriously, the vein of gold stopped. Their fortune disappeared.

They kept on digging, to no avail.

It wasn’t long before, they quit in frustration, sold their machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars and abandoned their dream.

After they went home in disappointment, the astute junk man called in a mining engineer who checked the mine and calculated that there was a vein of gold just three feet from where Harby and his uncle had stopped digging.

The junk man went on to make millions from the mine.

Harby returned home, paid back everyone who had lent him money and was determined to learn from his mistake in giving up too soon.

In my last two posts I talked about the 80/20 Rule (where 80% of your results come from the LAST 20% of your efforts) and how 64% of your results come from the last 4% of your efforts.

If the Harbys were 4%’ers, they would have persevered, found a way, asked for help, sought solutions outside their current level of perception, and ultimately made it rich from that mine.

Fortunately for our protagonist, he learned the lesson that you need to persevere through difficulties and stay focused if you are to become successful and went on to become a phenomenally successful insurance salesman, more than recouping what he would have made from the gold mine.

Whenever you feel like giving up on building the law business of your dreams – one that allows you to wake up energized, knowing you’re making a real contribution in your community, and earning a great income doing it – remember that you may be just three feet from gold!
