As part of its recent COVID-19 response package, the Minnesota Legislature provided the Commissioner of Commerce with wide emergency authority to extend, delay or waive deadlines for all licensing, investigative and filing requirements under his jurisdiction.

Examples of relief include filing time frames for submitting producer, adjuster, administrator and insurer licensing renewals, investigative or examination information demands, financial and holding company act submissions, and all the myriad of documents and applications that must be submitted to the department within a certain time frame.

Under the legislation, the commissioner cannot extend a deadline for a specific applicant or licensee and instead must do so for all licensees or applicants as a class.
