The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) issued a January 18th news release noting it cited Noah’s Ark Processors LLC (“Noah’s”) for alleged process safety management violations.
Noah’s is described as a beef processing plant located in Hastings, Nebraska.
The company is stated to have been cited for violations that include:

Process safety management program deficiencies

Failing to guard roof openings

Electrical safety and lockout/tagout violations
A Noah’s employee is stated to have suffered severe burns caused by anhydrous ammonia exposure.
The OSHA Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals standard is found at 29 C.F.R. 1910.119. It prescribes requirement for the management of hazards associated with processes using highly hazardous chemicals.
OSHA has proposed the assessment of a penalty of $182,926.
The company has 15 days from receipt of the citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
