Helpful Privacy Tips When Working from Home

It is a commonly-held belief that younger, more tech-savvy individuals are less likely to engage in risky cyber practices than their “senior,” pre-internet counterparts. Recent evidence, however, indicates to the contrary. Chubb’s 2019 Cyber Risk Survey revealed these surprising statistics:

Age Group Delete Suspicious Emails Regularly Monitor Their Financial Statements Enrolled in a Cybersecurity Monitoring Service
Over 55 77% 74% 53%
35 – 54 55% 57% 41%
18 – 34 36% 33% 29%

Vigilance, not vigor, produces safe cyber practices. In fairness, it is not the wisdom that comes with age that explains the survey results. In fact, “that is the great fallacy: the wisdom of old men. They do not grow wise. They grow careful.” ― Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms.
