Senior Housing News recently offered some insights into how senior living communities are addressing the desire of some residents to use marijuana in states where such use has been legalized, while also trying to avoid violating federal law which still lists cannabis as a Schedule I drug.

In October, President Biden ordered the Department of Health and Human Services to review how marijuana is scheduled under federal law. If its classification changes and use is only restricted by state law, then marijuana as both a medical and recreational option will likely become an expected standard of care. This could be especially common for Baby Boomers, who have demonstrated a real fondness for such use, with 56% of Baby Boomers polled reporting having used cannabis

Wise operators will start developing policies and procedures now.
