Since the passage of the Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA) in 2020, the number of solar and other energy projects has grown throughout Virginia. As a result, developers are now confronting a more challenging environment in securing land use and zoning approval for their projects.

Join Williams Mullen for our second webinar in our Spring Renewable Energy Webinar Series on Thursday, April 13, from 11:00 – 11:30 am (EST), where we will discuss recent trends and emerging issues in siting solar and other renewable energy projects in Virginia.

The webinar will be hosted by Brad Nowak, partner and co-chair of Williams Mullen’s Energy Practice Group, who will be joined by Williams Mullen’s land use partner, Lori Schweller.

What you will learn about:

  • Solar ordinances and policies
  • Negotiating SUP/CUP conditions, including cash payments to local governments
  • Comprehensive plan approval (“2232 Approval”)
  • Siting agreement statute
  • Community engagement
  • Public opposition to solar projects
  • What happens if my SUP/CUP is approved / denied?
