The stated aim of the draft UK Online Safety Bill (the Bill) is to make the UK "the safest place in the world to go online, and the best place to start and grow a digital business”. It has been described as a landmark piece of legislation in the regulation of the internet and online harms and, once enacted, will apply to social media platforms and search engines, regardless of where in the world the company is based or headquartered, if they are providing services to UK users.
