Consultation on reforming the off-payroll working rules

HMRC has issued a consultation on implementation of reforms to the off-payroll working rules, which will be extended to the private sector from April 2020.  The consultation provides useful detail on the intended scope of the reforms – which will impact both private and public sector organisations – and is intended to help businesses start preparing for reform.  Draft legislation will be published this summer.

Because isn't an answer – maternity absence not necessarily cause of treatment

The EAT overturned a finding of pregnancy and maternity discrimination in relation to a redundancy exercise in South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust v Jackson. The employee's absence on maternity leave was not necessarily the reason for her unfavourable treatment.
 
 
 
Ouch – working time compensation can include an award for personal injury
 
Although a breach of the Working Time Regulations 1998 cannot lead to an injury to feelings award, compensation can reflect personal injury suffered as a consequence of the breach, according to the EAT in Grange v Abellio London Ltd.
