Mexico’s General Health Council (CSG) will add the following industries to the list of essential businesses effective June 1, 2020:

  • Construction;
  • Mining; and
  • Manufacturing of transportation equipment, including equipment for the automotive, aerospace, railway, and shipping industries.

In order to return to business, however, companies in these industries must follow the government’s Technical Guidelines on Health and Safety in the Workplace and obtain governmental approval of their health and safety measures. Employers should complete the online registration for the approval of such health and safety measures by June 1, 2020. Companies that obtain approval before that date may resume work as soon as they have received the approval. Those that violate the guidelines or fail to obtain approval will be forced to shut down their operations.

The Mexican government is also expected to issue mandatory measures for all businesses to follow as a return-to-work requirement.

As of May 18, 2020, school and work activities are now allowed to resume in municipalities with no infection whose neighboring municipalities are also infection-free.
