On February 29, 2024, the Office of Federal Contractor Compliance Programs released new resources to “help veterans and employers understand the protections under the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) of 1974.” According to the agency’s communication, the new resources include:

  • Updated FAQs with new guidance to help employers comply with VEVRAA.
  • A document meant to promote effective practices for federal contractors and veterans in the workforce.
  • A series of videos highlighting the importance and benefits of self-identification as a veteran that includes information on which veterans are protected by VEVRAA.

These resources can be found on OFCCP’s new VEVRAA landing page

Federal Contractors and Veterans

Under VEVRAA, federal contractors and subcontractors are prohibited from engaging in discrimination in employment practices against veterans and requires employers to take action to provide equal employment opportunity in recruitment, hiring, promoting and retaining protected veterans. Additionally, federal contractors or subcontractors with 50 or more employees and a single contract of $150,000 or more are required to develop affirmative action plans for protected veterans.
