On April 12, 2016, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) announced that it had received more than 236,000 H-1B petitions subject to the quota for fiscal year 2017 (i.e., 65,000 for regular H-1B petitions, plus another 20,000 for those with advanced degrees from U.S. universities) and that it had completed the random selection process for the H-1B lottery. Electronic receipts are being sent out for cases filed via premium processing, and paper receipts should be sent out for the other selected cases within 30-45 days. The USCIS also announced that it will begin adjudicating premium processing cases that were selected in the H-1B lottery, no later than May 16, 2016.
