The SEC recently proposed significant changes for PE reporting requirements. Whether these amendments are adopted or not, one thing is for sure; all alternative investment organizations are on notice. Now is the time to catch up with industry peers and evaluate your current state Information Governance posture, including one of the most important and least discussed areas, data remediation. Private Equity and Hedge Funds are notorious for never deleting anything unless required because that information “may be needed” in the future. Unfortunately, due to an exponential growth in cyber-attacks coinciding with exponential growth in data, firms continue to fall behind, and enterprise risk management efforts suffer without understanding differing values of various information assets.

When looking at your overall data landscape regardless of geography or data type or system or repository, there is a constant large portion of data that could easily be identified, segregated, and disposed of: redundant/duplicative, outdated/obsolete, and trivial/no value to the business (“ROT”). Why choose to hold onto risk by storing useless data that could be remediated? And why choose not to perform regular checks on rights, access, and permission to critical and sensitive information assets? In this presentation, our presenters, experts in enterprise risk management, data privacy, legal operations, and cybersecurity, will discuss best practices for handling big data and provide tangible field-experienced methods for data remediation. These best practices can be implemented at your firm, proactively warding off adverse outcomes when facing an audit, investigation, regulatory request, litigation, or cyber breach incident.

  • Understand data risk and value enabling informed decisions for data disposition based on metrics and KPIs
  • Quantify high-value information assets and simultaneously eliminate ROT preventing both reputational and economic risk and harm
  • Defensible data disposition and remediation keeps critical and sensitive protected, enables compliance with regulatory and legal obligations, reduces overall enterprise risk, and eradicates risky ROT from your network
  • Insulate your firm from market volatility and consequences of data mismanagement by actually knowing about your firm’s data and continuously monitoring it from creation through destruction
