Carlton Fields' CF Goes Green Program Celebrates Earth Day: law firm's eco-friendly practices have gone from ideas to standard operating procedures

April 22, 2010 marked the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. in the last three years, Carlton Fields' CF Goes Green program has made great process in its efforts to implement green initiatives. In celebration of Earth Day, the firm is getting back to basics and focusing on three main initiatives:

1. Increase Recycling – As a legal organization, paper use is arguably our biggest environmental impact. The firm is making a major commitment in 2010 to recycle all paper. In 2009, Carlton Fields nearly doubled its paper recycling to equal a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 1,132.61 MTCO2E (compared with a 2008 reduction of 638.99 MTCO2E).

2. Know your size – Visit http://www.3degreesinc.com/partners/carltonfields/ and calculate your carbon footprint. Then take steps to reduce and offset your footprint.

3. Reduce Energy Use – The firm is in the process of drafting an Energy Plan to supplement our existing energy reduction measures. The firm’s IT department will be a key part of this initiative instituting firm guidelines for turning off computers and office equipment.

The initial goal of the CF Goes Green program was for the firm to proactively reduce waste generated by business and work practices, and to implement a green procurement policy. This includes creating a work setting that is healthy and environmentally responsible. Carlton Fields continues to evaluate business practices to find smarter ways to do business while protecting the environment.
