We begin the 2019 PTAB Year in Review with a review of 2019 petition filings at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and then take a closer look at the results of these challenges, examining trends in institution rates and final written decisions.

We explore the PTAB’s new motion to amend pilot programs, updates to the trial practice guide that was issued in July 2019, and appeals at the Federal Circuit. Additionally, we discuss notable cases at the Federal Circuit, including Arthrex, Inc. v. Smith & Nephew, Inc.
