As we have reminded employers, more North Carolina employers are now required to use the federal E-Verify program to determine whether new hires are authorized to work in the United States. Employers with 500 or more employees were required to be in compliance with North Carolina's E-Verify law by October 1, 2012. Employers with 100 or more employees were required to be in compliance by January 1, 2013. Employers with 25 or more employees must be in compliance by July 1, 2013. Private employers with 24 or fewer employees are not required to use E-Verify.

For more information, see E-Verify Law Signed by Governor Perdue.
