California employers with at least 5 employees, take note!  Effective April 1, 2016, the California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) will be amended and employers will be required to post a new Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL) notice. Link to Fair Employment and Housing Council’s website

The specific amendments to regulations include changes to the PDL poster, “Your Rights and Obligations as a Pregnant Employee”, as well as clarifications of the pregnancy disability leave requirements.

The new poster will include information about:

  • Employees’ rights (e.g., to request reasonable accommodation, transfer or pregnancy disability leave)
  • Employees’ obligations (e.g., to provide adequate advance notice of the need for leave to the employer)
  • Employers’ obligations (e.g., to provide reasonable accommodation, leave or transfer if the employee provides medical certification of the need).

Of course, we don’t recommend that employers wait until April 1 to become familiar with the amendments.  Start reviewing them now and make sure that, come April 1, you understand and are prepared to implement the latest PDL regulations.
