Although 2014 is not a real property reassessment year in Missouri, property owners still have the right to appeal the value of their properties. If you feel your current assessment is wrong, resulting in a tax bill that is too high, you should consider an appeal.
The formal process starts with an appeal to the local Board of Equalization and the deadlines for filing these appeals differ among the various jurisdictions. For example, the deadline in Jackson County and St. Louis County is Monday, July 14. However, in other counties appeals must be filed before Monday, June 16.
Further, it may be possible to have informal discussions with the local assessment departments which can often be very productive.
