President -
While final vote tallies are still being counted in several battleground states, Republican Donald J. Trump has surpassed the 270 Electoral College vote threshold to be elected as the 45th president of the United States. Garnering all of the electoral votes (102) from the 13 traditional “red states”—those that have voted for the Republican nominee in every election since 1992—Mr. Trump added several important battleground states, including Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and North Carolina to reach his current Electoral College total of 278 votes. Mr. Trump, along with his running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, will be inaugurated on January 20, 2017.
If current vote patterns remain, Hillary Clinton will become only the fifth presidential candidate to win the popular vote but lose the Electoral College vote.
