A deeply divided country has thus far failed to produce clear results for the 2020 national election, dubbed by many as the most consequential in a generation. Counting the record number of votes cast in key battleground states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia will determine if President Donald Trump is reelected or former Vice President Joe Biden is elected the 46th president.
Control of Congress also remains in doubt. Democrats will continue to run the House with the Republicans picking up a few seats. The outcome in the Senate remains unsettled with several races too close to call and at least one run-off expected in January. However, the Republicans appear to a have a more direct path to retain their majority status than the Democrats have to flip Senate control.
To help you assess yesterday's national election, K&L Gates has prepared a comprehensive guide that summarizes the results and their impact on the 117th Congress, which will convene in January. The Election Guide lists all new members elected to Congress, updates the congressional delegations for each state, and provides a starting point for analyzing the coming changes to the House and Senate committees.
