The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (“LDEQ”) issued a news release announcing the development of a new water data portal.

LDEQ describes it as a “forward-thinking, user-friendly approach to water data.”

The portal is stated to:

  • Provide web access to surface water quality data
  • Allow users to pull specific data they are requesting directly from the portal and export it into an excel spreadsheet
  • Include a new geospatial mapping tool
  • Provide the ability to instantaneously graph data on the water quality parameters available
  • Include an upgrade in the form of mobile and tablet optimization
  • Provide interagency and interdepartmental efficiency by reducing the number of data requests received

The project was made possible through an Exchange Network Grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

LDEQ’s Water Quality Standards and Assessment Section, in coordination with the Office of Technology Services under the Division of Administration, worked with Stephenson Disaster Management Institute at Louisiana State University to develop the portal.

The water quality data can be accessed at https://waterdata.deq.louisiana.gov.
