Air Enforcement: Mississippi Commission on Environmental Quality and Wiggins Plywood Plant Enter into Agreed Order

The Mississippi Commission on Environmental Quality and Hood Industries, Inc. (“Hood”) entered into a March 1st Agreed Order (“AO”) addressing an alleged violation of a Title V Operating Permit. See Order No. 7315 24.

The AO addresses a plywood plant in Wiggins, Mississippi.

Hood is stated to have been contacted by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and notified of a violation of the plant’s Title V Operating Permit on December 7, 2023.

The violation is described as follows:

  • Condition 3.B.3 – Respondent failed to demonstrate compliance with the Filterable Particulate Matter (“PM”) limitation of 0.44 pounds per one million British thermal units (1b/MMBtu) of heat input during a stack test of Emission Point AA-003 on April 3, 2023.

The plant is alleged to have emitted 0.561 1b/MMBtu of heat input during the stack test.

The plant demonstrated compliance with the Filterable PM limitation during a retest of Emission Point AA-003 on May 12, 2023.

The AO assesses a civil penalty of $17,500.00.
