What Caused the Data Breach Affecting Aurora National Customers?

The Aurora National data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Aurora’s filings with the Attorney General of Texas and the Attorney General of Maine provide some important information on what led up to the breach. According to these sources, on June 28, 2023, Aurora was notified about a data security incident by a third-party vendor.

In response, Aurora investigated the incident. Ultimately, Aurora was able to determine that an unauthorized party was able to access confidential data that consumers had provided to Aurora. The period of unauthorized access was between May 29, 2023 and May 30, 2023.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Aurora National reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name and Social Security number.

On July 21, 2023, Aurora National sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of which information of theirs was compromised.
