What Caused the Azura Vascular Care Data Breach?

The Azura Vascular Care data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Azura’s filing with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights provides some important information on what led up to the breach. Azura also posted a website notice discussing the incident.

According to these sources, on November 9, 2023, Azura determined that it had been the victim of a cyberattack. In response, Azura took steps to contain the incident and then launched an investigation with the help of third-party data forensics specialists.

The Azura investigation confirmed that on or around September 27, 2023, the hackers accessed and encrypted Azura’s network. It was later determined that the hackers were also able to access certain files containing confidential patient information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Azura Vascular Care reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, mailing address, date of birth, demographic and contact information, emergency contact information, insurance policy and guarantor information, diagnosis and treatment information, and medical information.

On January 13, 2024, Azura Vascular Care sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
