The Beaver Watershed Alliance announced that Alan D. Fortenberry, P.E., has received the 2017 Beaver Lake Watershed Guardian Award (“Award”).

Mr. Fortenberry is the Chief Executive Officer of the Beaver Water District.

The Award is described as a stewardship recognition effort carried out by the Beaver Watershed Alliance Awareness and Education Committee. Its purpose is to recognize individuals, businesses, organizations, and agencies in the Beaver Watershed community who have demonstrated, supported, or achieved water quality protection efforts within the Beaver Lake Watershed.

Mr. Fortenberry received the award on November 17th during the Beaver Watershed Alliance’s Annual Friendraiser Event. He is described as a staunch advocate of protecting and preserving the water quality of Beaver Lake and its watershed. His role in establishing funding for source water protection programs and oversight of the development of what is described as one of the nation’s first source water protection programs was noted.

Source water protection efforts referenced included the Beaver Water District Board approval of a measure to designate four cents per every 1,000 gallons of water sold to be dedicated to source water protection initiatives. Such funds are stated to be for the exclusive use of programs and initiatives that will maintain the water quality of Beaver Lake.
