The late rapper known as The Notorious B.I.G. recorded a song called, “Mo Money, Mo Problems.”  Many of the lyrics can’t be repeated here, but the refrain can:

“It’s like the more money we come across
The more problems we see.”

This refrain came to mind yesterday as I sat in the BIO 2018 session about digital health:  A Look to the Future: Investors Corner – 2018 & Beyond.  The speakers boasted that $1.6 billion dollars has been invested in digital health in the first quarter of 2018.  That’s over $500 million a month and about $17 million a day, a truly remarkable pace.  This money’s chasing health data, which means there will be more privacy policies implemented, more terms of use posted, more unauthorized uses of data, and more security incidents and reportable breaches.  And consistent with the theme of my post yesterday, there was not one mention of privacy and security concerns during yesterday’s whole session.

One more musical note:  “”Mo Money, Mo Problems” samples from the Diana Ross song “I’m Coming Out“, and Diana Ross performs tonight at BIO 2018.
