On July 27, 2022, the CFPB updated its Debt Collection Rule FAQs on limited-content messages and call frequencies. The amended FAQs add new sections addressing questions related to electronic communication and unusual or inconvenient times or place provisions in the Debt Collection Rule.
More specifically, the FAQs provide information on the requirements of debt collectors to communicate electronically with consumers as well as any requirements for debt collectors to provide an opt-out notice to consumers in their electronic communication. Additionally, the FAQs provide guidance on allowable communication in unusual or inconvenient times or places.
