Chattanooga Imaging Notifies 569k Patients of Possible Data Breach Following Cyberattack

On December 20, 2023, Plaza Radiology d/b/a/ Chattanooga Imaging filed a notice of data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights after confirming that the company was the recent target of a cyberattack. In this notice, Chattanooga Imaging explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information. Upon completing its investigation, Chattanooga Imaging began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What Caused the Chattanooga Imaging Data Breach?

The Chattanooga Imaging data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. According to these sources, on October 21, 2023, Chattanooga Imaging determined that it was the victim of a cybersecurity incident. In response, Chattanooga Imaging launched an investigation with the help of third-party data security specialists.

While Chattanooga Imaging’s investigation is ongoing, the company has determined that certain files were accessed by an unauthorized party.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Chattanooga Imaging reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Chattanooga Imaging is still in the process of reviewing the affected files and has not yet confirmed what types of information were leaked as a result of the attack.

On December 20, 2023, Chattanooga Imaging sent out notification letters to patients who may have been impacted. However, Chattanooga Imaging notes that once the investigation is complete, it will send data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
