On April 24, 2023, CIC Group, Inc. filed a notice of data breach with the Texas Attorney General’s Office after learning that confidential consumer information that had been entrusted to the company was subject to unauthorized access. Based on the company’s official filing, the incident resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to consumers’ names, addresses, and Social Security numbers. After confirming that consumer data was leaked, CIC Group began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals who were impacted by the recent data security incident.

News of the CIC Group data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from the company’s filing with the Texas Attorney General. However, the information provided on the Texas AG’s site is limited, and CIC Group has yet to post notice of the incident on its website. Thus, all we know about the CIC Group breach is that recently, CIC Group learned of a potential data security incident, which triggered a company investigation.

The CIC Group investigation confirmed that certain confidential information in the company’s possession was subject to unauthorized access.

Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, CIC Group began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, and Social Security number. According to the Texas Attorney General, CIC Group, Inc. data breach affected 1,713 individuals in Texas alone.

On April 24, 2023, CIC Group sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
