Yesterday, Las Virgenes Municipal Water District General Manager David Pedersen (a Best Best & Krieger client), testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment on behalf of the Association of California Water Agencies and the California Association of Sanitation Agencies.
The hearing was titled “Building a 21st Century Infrastructure for America: Water Stakeholders’ Perspectives.” In his testimony, Pedersen focused on:
-
Federal Funding for Water Infrastructure,
-
An extension of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit terms,
-
Support for integrated planning and
-
Avoidance of any potential inclusion of consolidation or reorganization of local water and wastewater agencies as a criterion for federal funding assistance or ranking projects for funding.
The hearing took place as a measure for Congress to hear from stakeholders before an infrastructure package is introduced by the administration. Pederson “urge[d] the Subcommittee to ensure that any water infrastructure policy preserve and enhance the federal commitment to provide financial assistance going forward.”
