What Caused the Conrade Insurance Data Breach?

The Conrade Insurance data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Conrade’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. Conrade also posted a website notice discussing the incident.

According to these sources, Conrade recently detected unusual activity within an employee’s email account. In response, Conrade secured the email account and launched an investigation to determine what, if any, consumer data may have been compromised.

Ultimately, Conrade’s investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access the employee email account between July 14 and July 27, 2023. It was also determined that the employee’s email account contained various emails and attachments containing confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Conrade Insurance reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, driver’s license or government identification number, and financial account number.

On February 26, 2024, Conrade Insurance sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
