Welcome to the January edition of the Alston & Bird CPSC Recall Snapshot.

While the government was shut down for part of January, the CPSC was hard at work in the last month, announcing 29 new product recalls in December 2017. In addition, the CPSC approved a new federal safety standard for children’s folding chairs and stools. The standard incorporates ASTM F2613-17a, limiting the CPSC’s standard to children’s folding chairs and stools. The standard sets forth requirements for the chairs’ and stools’ latching and locking mechanisms, for their stability testing, and for their warning labels, among others. The effective date will be six months after the final rule is published in the Federal Register.
